The story of "Zahra Yaqoob".

Zehra Yaqub: Lahore's social media influencer whose illness was also ridiculed by doctors

When she was born, her legs were broken.  Doctors would add, but they would break again with light pressure.

The first days of Zahra Yaqub's life were spent in some of the same pain and suffering.

The doctors then told her mother that the girl's bones were very weak and that she might not live long.  As the years passed, Zehra grew mentally, but her body did not develop according to her age.

Someone lovingly tried to lift her up and she would put pressure on her legs and some of her leg bones would break.

Zehra's mother immediately rushed her to the hospital.  The doctor would put the bones together and give them temporary relief.  However, the doctors did not have any treatment to prevent the bones of Venus from breaking permanently.

Her mother could not say for sure, but the symptoms she described and the doctors told her that Zahra had a genetic disease that could not be cured.

In this disease called 'brittle bone', the bones of the patient's body are so weak that they do not develop and they break even with light pressure.

This has been the case with Zahra Yaqub for almost the first nine years.  Then the bones in their hands and feet stopped breaking, or in other words, they learned to live with somewhat weak bones.  However, it was not just a matter of hands and feet.

His body was not developing as a whole.  He was barely a foot tall until he was ten years old.  His legs could not straighten or move due to multiple breaks and joints.

Her breasts did not grow and break, making it difficult for her to breathe.  At the same time, he was suffering from stomach upset.

His mother used to take him from one doctor to another so that maybe someone could save him completely from the pain.  But most of the time, they would get a cold-blooded response from such places.

A doctor had also told him, "BB, do you bring this lump?"  He did not escape.

Hearing this, his mother's eyes filled with tears and she became angry.  He replied to the doctor, "What you are calling Lothra today, one day he will become a successful man."

"Someone used to say, 'Feed him elephant eggs.'

 زہرہ

Some doctors even made fun of him.  "Someone used to say, 'Feed him elephant eggs.'  Someone used to say, Bibi, do you pick it up every day?  He didn't live long, why waste money on it. '

His mother did not listen to the people and Zahra continued to dare.  His father works for government TV.  One brother is pursuing higher education.  Even for Zehra's education, her parents always arranged teachers for her at home.

These days she lives in a small two-room house in the Lahore Cantonment area.  In the main room of the house, Venus lies on a large bed or sits up.  They can't walk.  A wheelchair is parked next to the bed.

On the same bed, her make-up was placed in a corner, and a mirror was mounted on a nearby wall with several small bulbs.

Zahra Yaqub was holding her mobile phone in her hand and looking at her Instagram while moving the screen with her fingers.  He recently posted a video and a few photos of himself on his public account.  He has more than 46,000 followers on Instagram.

He is now a social media influencer.  That is, their views on whether something is good or bad are important because they are reaching thousands of people.  Many companies send their products to them for analysis.

But how did Zahra make this possible?  How did she fight her illness and reach thousands?

How hard did the disease make life?

Zahra Yaqub said that in the early days, she had difficulty in breathing. She used to seek treatment from a doctor of a private hospital.

One day when she reached the doctor at the clinic, he asked her to take Zahra out.  "Get this girl out of here, why don't you bring her to my clinic, her wheelchair spoils the whole clinic."

Zehra used to see this and many other similar behaviors and they would stay in her mind.  What she learned from them was also in her mind.  She remembers that once she became addicted to an injection, she used to run it on everyone, including her mother.

"It felt like my body was breaking down."

He often had stomach problems due to his illness.  They used to get ulcers.  On one occasion, he was hospitalized for 11 days with a similar ulcer.  During this time she was given an injection which she became so accustomed to that she screamed when she could not find him when she returned home.

"I felt like my body was breaking down.  I used to tell my mother to give me that injection.  My mother patiently explained to me.  Sometimes she would take me out to distract me.  With great difficulty I lost my life. '

"Both arms and legs were amputated, so I wondered if she would let me go."

"The doctors told him to get rid of his hands, not his legs."

It has been 23 years of Zahra's life fighting such hardships.  He is still just a few inches taller than a foot.  But their mental development has been exactly according to their age.  Their ability to observe is very good.

"I say, 'Have you repented to me or to Allah?'

Often when Zahra goes out in a wheelchair with her mother, some people see her and say 'Toba Istighfar'.  If Venus is in a good mood, she forgives, if not, she stops this person.

I say that you have repented to me or to Allah because the Creator is Allah.  He made me and you. '

Such events and experiences have taught Zahra what she has learned. She records videos on the subject and shares them with her followers on Instagram.  She believes that this should be discussed.

They feel bad when people call them 'disabled'.  She believes that her parents have given her a name that should be her identity.  But in society, people make the identities of people like them their identity.

"I would ask future generations to name their children after them so that at least they realize that they are called by their names."

In addition to these guided conversational videos, most of the content on Zahra's account is based on her make-up art photos and tic-tac-toe videos.

The witch says ...  That's what make-up art is all about. "

In the make-up art pictures, Venus is seen applying make-up on her face in different ways.  "Make-up is an art," she says, "out of the ordinary."

Sometimes they look like they are wearing black lipstick, sometimes the color of one of their eyes is different from the other.  Some people criticize him on social media.  The witch says ...  Let's say shut up.  They don't know that make-up is art, that's what it is. "

However, according to Zehra, every picture of her goes 'trending' and thousands of people see it.  Because of this 'reach' to their people, they are counted among the social media influencers.

The journey from the struggle for survival to the social media influencer

That is why many makeup, fashion and style brands keep sending their products to them so that they can get their review or analysis to their followers.  His mother jokingly tells him that "the mother is poor and the daughter is rich."

According to Zehra, initially when she had a personal account, she started posting pictures of herself on it.  People started getting interested in her make-up pictures.  Until then, however, her followers did not know that Zahra was in a wheelchair and what disease she was suffering from.

Then she decided to make her account public, meaning that everyone could see it, and at the same time she told her followers that she was in a wheelchair.  Zehra says that after that her followers increased a lot.

After that, it became his habit to stay in touch with his 'Insta Family'.  She regularly uploads photos and videos to her account.  Now they feel that the camera of their phone is not very good but they still can't afford to buy a new phone.

Following his popularity on social media, local media outlets have also made reports on his story and interviewed him.

Recently, she has been receiving requests for interviews on a daily basis, most of which she did not deny.  They get a break on the day when they are not feeling well or they are tired.  It is not possible for them to sit for long.

"I want to tell this doctor ..."  Today I am what my mother said.

Zehra loves to talk positively and encouragingly.  He is very impressed with Muniba Mazari.  Muneeb Mazari is a public speaker who fell into a permanent wheelchair as a result of an accident.  Zehra also wants to be a public speaker or a motivational speaker.

"I have a lot of people in front of me.  Let them ask me questions and I will answer them.  I'm very interested. '

"Tolerated the sarcastic faces of colleagues but remained determined for the future."

"Disability is a part of life, not life"

"How do you drive a rickshaw if your legs don't work?"

Zahra knows she will never be able to walk on her own feet, but it is not that her heart does not want.  Whenever she wants to walk, she closes her eyes and imagines.  "I think I'm in a wheelchair or I'm on the ground and I'm moving."

She does not complain about her problems, nor does she remember her illness.  She says, "Allah Almighty said, 'Fight to the last breath.'  You have said that you don't have to fight to the last breath, you just have to fight again. '

Zahra Yaqub also wants to meet the doctors who told her mother, "What a lump she is carrying." She says she does not know if she is alive today.

If they were alive I would definitely like to meet them saying that I am the one they talked about and today I am what my mother said.
